Breed Information

Labrador Retrievers are good tempered, confident and extremely affectionate dogs. They love nothing more than spending time with their owners and splashing about in water. As the name suggests Labradors are retrievers and will bring you items from around the house and garden.

SIZE

Labrador Retrievers generally have a height of between 55 and 57cm. This breed can live happily outdoors but will much prefer to spend time with you inside. Labradors are very obedient so can be trained to behave very well indoors.

COAT

Labrador Retrievers have a short and dense double coat. The undercoat is very soft and keeps them warm and dry in cold water and the top coat is hard and helps to repel water. Labradors shed a considerable amount of hair.

Labrador Retrievers are bred in three different colours; yellow, chocolate and black.

CHARACTER & TEMPERAMENT

Labrador Retrievers are intelligent, keen and biddable, with a strong will to please. Kindly natured, this breed has no trace of aggression or undue shyness. Their friendly eyes express intelligence and good temper.

Labradors are famous world wide for their beautiful temperament. They are loving, exceptionally loyal, patient with children and overall people oriented dogs.

CARE

Caring for your Labrador’s coat is very easy because of their short coat. A quick brush daily will keep the loose hairs under control and a bath can be given one or twice a fortnight. 

TRAINING

Labrador Retrievers are extremely intelligent and respond exceptionally well to obedience training.  

ACTIVITY

Labrador Retrievers require large amounts of exercise. At the bare minimum they should be taken on a 20 minute walk every day. If you have access to a dog friendly swimming area your Labrador will never be happier!
