Breed Information

The Border Collie is a medium-sized dog most famous for their low and quiet approach to herding livestock. Border Collies are an extremely active, graceful breed and boast perfect balance.

SIZE

The average height of a male Border Collie is about 48-53 cm and the female ranges between 46-51 cm. Border Collies are not suited to aparment living.

COAT

This dog has a double coat. The topcoat is long, dense and medium-textured, while the undercoat is short, soft, and dense, and offers protection from extreme weather conditions. Coat colours include black and white, blue and white, chocolate and white, red and white, blue merle and the tri-colour black, tan and white.  Border Collies shed moderately.

CHARACTER & TEMPERAMENT

Border Collies are exceptionally energetic, highly intelligent, and have a strong desire to work for their masters. They get along well with children and other pets, as long as it is given enough activities to keep its mind and body busy.

CARE

On non-shedding months, the coat of this dog needs to be brushed at least twice a week.  Look out for ticks, especially during hot months and clip the nails regularly.

TRAINING

Border Collies are regarded as one of the most intelligent breeds due to their eagerness and aptitude for learning. They are quite sensitive and live for the praise of their master. They are obedient and agile and can learn new tricks in a short period of time.

ACTIVITY

Border Collies have boundless energy and will love to play for hours on end. Exercising is an enormous part of a Border Collie's lifestyle, however it is important they are not worked too hard before they are 18 months to allow for their growth plates to properly develop.
